Angry Schwag is always Interesting Schwag
Brett Favre returned to the Packers stadium for the first time after leaving the team in 2007. He now plays for their largest (and most hated) rival- the Minnesota Vikings. So, like most slighted cities would respond, he was greeted with a raucous response. Prior to the game an airplane banner circled the stadium requesting that he “Retire 4 Good”. Once the plays started running fans had more gusto on the booing end of things than the cheering one. As the game wore on it only got worse; the irritated shouts increased (as did the Vikings score) and the angry schwag, including posters, banners and shirts was proudly displayed for the world to see.
Among my favorite schwag items were the Favre-Fedro sign, and a poster that read “True Legends Don’t Wear Purple” (written in green, of course!).
However, nothing beats the creative guy wearing an altered Packers jersey. ““It’s like going into church on Sunday and the priest says, ‘Everybody go home, Jesus has now sided with the devil,’” said Tom Fields, whose Favre jersey now has “JUDAS” on the back and big red slashes through the 4s.”
The things people come up with when sports are involved…
You just have to love it.
