Schwag From Around the Globe

HOLY SCHWAG!! Check out this freakin’ globe! Hopefully this is pretty neat for you New Yorkers out there, or for those who appreciate baseball and recognize that the last year at Yankees stadium is the end of an era for the pinstriped powerhouse from the Big Apple.

Andy Zito, snow dome purveyor extraordinaire, says that this particular ballpark giveaway reflects the last set of stadium renovations, and says “New York Yankees” on the underside.

Snow globes never seem to get old, and whenever they are given as gifts they tend to be displayed on bureaus or desktops for all to see and shake. With the holiday season approaching, how about jazzing your usual humdrum office photo up a bit? It’s as easy as 1…2… globe

Just put that sucker in there and pass them around to your employees. That oughta really shake things up, if you know what I mean. Seems like a pretty cool (!) idea to me. Somebody stop me! Ok, fine, I’ll stop myself.

Warriors Manage Huge Upset in 2007 Playoffs: “We Believe!”

After 13 years without any hope of a playoff birth, the Golden State Warriors squeaked into the eighth slot in 2007, seemingly poised for a beatdown by top-ranked Dallas. But Bay-Area restaurant owner Paul Wong believed, and so did tens of thousands of Warriors fans. Wong designed signs and eventually t-shirts displaying the simple mantra, “We Believe.”

Those who believed showed it with “We Believe” paraphernalia, and the mighty W’s did not disappoint their optimistic fans. Through sheer athleticism, youth, and a powerful run-and-gun offense, the Warriors shocked the Mavericks and took an early lead in the series.

At this juncture, Comcast made a brilliant decision to fund classier versions of the original “We Believe” t-shirt (pictured above right), and handed them out to some 40,000 fans over two home playoff games against Dallas. The Warriors went on to win the series 4-1, and you better believe the fans loved those promotional t-shirts and wore them with pride.

In fact, fans loved them so much that they wore the bright yellow shirts all over the Bay Area for the next year to come, prominently displaying the Comcast logo everywhere they went. T-shirts are a great promotional idea for making sure tons of people notice your brand. The only better sports promotion might be caps/hats, given that fans tend to wear hats almost every day, while those more conscious of hygiene might wash shirts after one use.

Blast From The Past: Buffalo Sabres Schwag

I love finding old school sports schwag featuring outdated logos, non-existent teams, and re-located franchises.  This stuff really brings me back! Check out this promotional mug with the old Buffalo Sabres logo on it. Just seeing it makes me feel like I’m back in 1996 again! Modern logos sure have come a long way since the minimalist designs of the past, but I must say that schwag itself has evolved nicely. The difference between modern promotional sports bottles and the bottles of 10 years ago is pretty amazing. Do you have any old school sports schwag you’re willing to share? Send me an e-mail at blog@teamschwag.com or post up some pictures in the comments section!
